'1408' Haunts Delaware Tech Oct. 15

What: 1408
When: Oct. 15 through 19 at 12: 30 p.m.
Where: Delaware Tech Theater
Cost: Free

Synopsis: Mike Enslin is a man who wants to prove there is nothing beyond here and now.

No afterlife...

No God...

No second chances...

Or are there?

The only demons in room 1408 are those within its visitors. Renowned horror novelist Mike Enslin (Cusack) only believes what he can see with his own two eyes. After a string of bestsellers discrediting paranormal events in the most infamous haunted houses and graveyards around the world, he scoffs at the concept of an afterlife. Enslin's phantom-free run of long and lonely nights is about to change forever when he checks into suite 1408 of the notorious Dolphin Hotel for his latest project, "Ten Nights in Haunted Hotel Rooms." Defying the warnings of the hotel manager (Jackson), the author is the first person in years to stay in the reputedly haunted room. Another bestseller may be iminent, but like all Stephen King heroes, Enslin must go from skeptic to true believer - and ultimately survive the night.

'Glory' to kick off Student Film Group

The Student Film Group will kick off its 2007-2008 season with a bold look at a forgotten page of Civil War history in the Oscar-winning film 'Glory.'
When: Wednesday, Sept. 25 at 6 p.m.
Where: Movies at Midway Screening Room
Cost: Free
The Film Group will look at war films throughout the ages and throughout the different battles, but focusing on lesser-known tales and titles of the genre. We know you have probably heard enough about war in the media today, so we are going to take a different approach, featuring films about the subject from other countries, comedies and seldom-seen works involving the subject.
Film synopsis: As the US Civil War protracts and drains even the vast resources of the north, an experiment is made with black troops, serving in a special regiment under an all-white officer corps. Since the traditional military establishment considers this a bad joke, the young abolitionist idealist Robert Gould Shaw from a very privileged family gets the rank of Colonel with the dubious honor to command the black volunteers, mainly illiterate former slaves. Even his personal friend and second in command, Major Cabot Forbes, lacks confidence in the project; yet they must overcome countless difficulties in training, procurement etcetera before the unit can even enter the War, but end up covering themselves and the Union army with glory -and a sea of blood- against the Confederates.

Student Film Group returns Sept. 24

The Rehoboth Beach Film Society's Student Film group will begin meeting once again at the Movies at Midway Screening Room on Wednesday evenings, starting September 24 at 6 p.m. We will begin by looking at the genre of war films. Wait, come back! We know you've heard enough about war in the news, so we want to take a look at how it's affected cinema throughout the ages, starting with the Civil War.
We will look at all aspects of the genre, from anti-war war films to comedic war films. I will post the list of dates and films (plus trailers if I can get my filthy hands on them) and post them up here in the days to come, so stay tuned.
